This was a brass engraving job, we had a man ask us to engrave out 3 solid 10mm brass plates for a boat , he want the letters engraved down 5mm and to leave a 5mm back plate so the lettering looked like the where embossed from the back plate, typically this is a straight forward job only thing was the brass was very tough as it was a marine grade brass of some nature so it was tough cutting pretty close to steel harness anyway it required some very hard tooling something we use for steels , we could only take about 1mm depth per pass so each plate required 5 initial machining passes to get down to the 5mm mark this meant it took a bit of time to do all 3 plates as they where 1.5m long anyway we got it sorted for him and he was very pleased another happy customer
