It is named in honor of the late Andrew Markopoulos, whose tenure as senior vice president of visual merchandising and store design for the department store division of Dayton-Hudson made an indelible mark in the field and elevated it from a trade to an art form.
The Award recognizes truly outstanding achievement and contributions in visual merchandising and store design. It is the most prestigious award in the retail industry, named after the late visual merchandising legend Andrew Markopoulos.
The recipients are nominated by peers and selected by The Markopoulos Circle of previous recipients based on their lifetime achievements and overall career accomplishments, their ability to innovate and inspire.
The Markopoulos Award Celebrates its 26th Year of Recognizing Industry Icons in the Name of the Legendary Andrew Markopoulos.
This year’s award, presented by the Markopoulos Circle (past 25 recipients) and VMSD Magazine, was hosted by; Ralph Pucci At the Ralph Pucci International Showroom, 44 West 18th Street,Penthouse, NYC.
Presented this year to Peter Marino, FAIA, the principal of Peter Marino Architect.

The practice is recognized for its award-winning residential, retail, cultural, and hospitality projects worldwide. Well known for integrating art within architectural designs, Peter Marino has commissioned more than 300 site-specific works of art.
PMA projects currently in design or recently completed include a new 10 story flagship for Tiffany & Co. in NYC; a new ground up building for Chanel in Los Angeles; Cheval Blanc hotel in the historic ‘La Samaritaine’ in Paris; a flagship for Dior on Avenue Montaigne in Paris; a flagship for Bulgari in Place Vendome, Paris; a new building for Chanel in Miami; a complex of buildings in Greece; a Louis Vuitton flagship in Ginza, Tokyo; an art foundation in Southampton, New York; condominiums and a hotel in Miami; numerous private residences worldwide.
